TASK _ FIND PLACES THAT ARE DOMINATED AND DISTURBED
BY THE CAR AND THEN PROPOSE A CHANGE

︎︎︎

WHY ?

AVALANCHE. CAR. FREE. CITY.

The goals of urban space and mobility transformations are clear. The number of cars and parking spaces must be reduced. Social and structural barriers must be dismantled, while urban space must be re-established as public and natural living space. Although these goals can be clearly stated, their implementation turns out to be highly complex and lengthy. Auftakt Kiel, therefore, addresses two central questions of urban transformation processes: where and how do we start? The Project focuses on areas that have high social and natural value. In this case, it is the Schrevenpark in Kiel.

HOW ?

NEW. SIGNAGE. / INTEGRATE & COMMUNICATE

To avoid the risk of large and radical building projects, Auftakt Kiel relies on the subtle expansion of existing natural and recreational places. Access is enlarged, while a green crossing is laid over the traffic areas. The integration of natural stones increases their resistance and provides a fluid transition to the surrounding street. The structural principle deliberately breaks the prevailing separation of traffic and natural spaces and gently merges them. In this way, new experiences can be gained, and the value of transformation processes becomes more tangible to residents and visitors. Thus, Auftakt Kiel serves as a mediator and lays the first stone for upcoming larger-scale projects.
